Hispanic Text Market is Mucho Grande


Next to Blacks, Hispanics are the largest consumers of mobile content in the United States.

The US Census estimates that one in ten American households are now Hispanic and the Hispanic market is the fastest growing one in the country, expected to reach 18% of the population by 2020.

Analysts suggest that the reason that Hispanics are so cell phone oriented is that the group is very mobile and many don’t have laptops or computers in their homes so their mobile phones have become the tool for communication. Moreover, Hispanics may not have a home phone and the population skews younger, thus already being likelier candidates for the purchase of mobile data content.

Those of us who worked in the 900 number business know that Hispanics were always a great source of revenue for 900 number providers. Apparently, Hispanics have now made the transformation from 900 numbers to being leading users of mobile phone content.

While Hispanics may already download a lot of mobile content, there is still a great need for more content geared to the Hispanic market. According to M:Metrics, Hispanics are more than twice as likely to download a game compared to the general population. Moreover, 18.4% of Hispanics have purchased a cool ringtone compared to 10% of the general population.
