Texting Trumps Voicing

By Ashley Randazzo

After a lazy Saturday of sitting around on the instant messenger, I heard a noise from my desk as if something was drilling into it. Of course, it was my cell phone vibrating repeatedly until I decided to stop the drilling. I received a text message from a gentleman I am seeing that said, “Wnt 2 go out 2nite?” Of course I appreciated the thought, but if I remember correctly, physically calling a lady to go out to dinner was once as important as asking her face to face. Messaging has become so popular to my generation that it beats out the personalization of a voice phone call.

Trust me, I’m not complaining at all. Texting is one of the easiest ways for me to ask questions and receive quick answers. It’s very addicting for my friends and I, we use it to make plans for the night ahead, or even discuss the latest gossip around campus. I can also send out bulk text messages to my friends, so all of them get the same message at once. For my busy life, it’s one of the more convenient ways to communicate on the go.

It’s obvious that the dating scene has changed over the years along with technology, but in the long run, it’s only another way to communicate feelings to one another. I don’t mind a quick message of “I’m thinking about you,” but sometimes there’s got to be a voice to the text.
