Text Messaging Signals The End of Cursive Writing

Is cursive writing a thing of the past? It sure seems so according to The Free Press. The Free Press reports that only 15% of all high school students used cursive writing on the essay portion of the SAT test. The rest all wrote in BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS. The Free Press reports that 1.5 million American students take the SAT test each year.
Why the change in writing styles? The Free Press in Detroit reports that text messaging has something to do with it. I can’t really buy that, however. Today’s juniors in high school would have learned how to write almost ten years ago when text messaging was not quite yet so popular. Anyway, it’s a sure thing that text messaging will have an effect in the future as less and less Americans continue to use cursive writing. John Hancock and the other signers of the Declaration of Independence would not be happy.
