Text Messaging Goes Country!

WYCD, the hottest country station in Detroit has found a new way to interact with listeners: Text Messaging!

WYCD’s latest success story took place at a 3 day weekend Country Hoedown where over 2000 entries were received.

Festival goers were asked to text “ATT” to WYCD1 to enter to win a “Meet & Greet” with country artists behind stage.

They utilized PromoTXT to reach out and allow everyone to take part in the text campaign. Calling in to a radio station only allows so many people to participate; however, with texting – everyone gets through! Not to mention, everyone receives the advertiser sponsored message – which makes the station’s relationship with the advertiser even more valuable.
The sales department was able to package the text message sponsorship and generate additional NTR that paid well above the fees they pay for the PromoTXT monthly fee.

Debbie Kenyon, GM of WYCD & WVMV in Detroit realized the need to start integrating text messaging into the WYCD’s sales and promotional efforts. “As technology advances, so must we. With interactive text message promotions, we can build a database of listeners and continue to interact, inform and enhance the delivery of station content in a timely fashion. It’s simple with PromoTXT to do just this,” Kenyon said.

Currently, WYCD accepts text messages from listeners requesting to hear their favorite country hits. The WYCD sales force is active in integrating text campaigns into their sales calls with advertisers.

WYCD has set the bar in the radio industry and the Detroit Market – proving that text campaigns are hotter right now than Kenny Chesney’s bare chest!
