American Idol Sets New Text Message Record

It’s amazing what American Idol has done to increase awareness of text messaging in the United States.
According to AT&T Wireless, American Idol set a text message record when it took 78 million messages this season.
American Idol, which began using text in its programs during its second season in 2003, offered several options for its fans to text message this year. Text message solutions were provided for trivia games, sweepstakes, text chat, vote reminders, and, of course, voting. In addition, for the first time ever, Idol actually notified contestants of their moving on to the next round via a text message.
The great thing about American Idol is that 22% of all those who participated said that their first text message ever sent was to vote during the American Idol show. That’s great news for the mobile marketing industry.
