Yahoo Mobile Search Grows

T-Mobile USA has selected Yahoo as the default search provider for its mobile devices.

Yahoo will power its new “Web2Go” portal that T-Mobile users will see.  T-Mobile users will use Yahoo to search the web as well as to purchase content like ringtones and wallpapers.

Yahoo will show its sponsored links on the search results pages.  The two companies will share the revenue earned from its results pages.

Investing in mobile search seems to be an important strategic goal of Yahoo as the online search engine advertising business stagnates.

Mobile Search Engine Preferences

  • Google — 60.1%
  • Yahoo — 36.4%
  • Carrier Search Engine — 21.9%
  • Microsoft — 10.3%
  • AOL — 6.7%

(Totals add up to more than 100% due to respondents indicating multiple preferences.)
