Adult Mobile Market Growing

The mobile adult entertainment market is expected to grow to a $4.9 billion industry by 2013, according to a report from ResearchandMarkets.com.  The study is a fifth in a series by the company.

Western Europe continues to be the dominant region for adult mobile services.  Western Europeans eat up mobile adult content generating 42% of worldwide revenues in 2008.  In North America, carrier restrictions (and perhaps a Republican administration) have left the adult mobile industry stymied with just 2% of the overall world market.  Most of the adult mobile market in the USA is probably simple services like mobile dating.

According to the study, the growth is occurring despite numerous regulations in many countries.  With an increasing move to the mobile internet, however, the adult entertainment can simply be accessed on the mobile web rather than where it previously had to be accessed on the deck.

While North America represents only 2% of the worldwide adult entertainment market in 2008, it is anticipated to increase to 11% by 2013.  While the carriers have continued to impose restrictions on adult mobile content, it will be interesting to see how they attempt to get a “piece” of the action when the market becomes a much bigger industry in the United States and Canada.
