Mobile Marketing with a Punch
Boxing is not the sport that it used to be. There’s no more Brown Bomber, Louisville Lip, or Golden Boy.
Rocky hasn’t even made a movie in the past few years.
Ultimate fighting has become the contact sport of choice in the squared circle, or octagon. Quite frankly, it’s just more exciting to those of us fascinated that somebody would want to make a living by getting the crap knocked out of them.
The biggest bout of the year will happen soon as Floyd Mayweather Jr. takes on Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather is 39-0 and has defeated the likes of Oscar de la Hoya.
Promoting this fight is being done by means not normally attributed to boxing matches. Golden Boy Productions and HBO know that you can’t hang posters any more and draw an audience.
This fight is the first that I’ve heard of that will be promoting the boxing match by mobile marketing.
