Punxsutawney Phil, Pennsylvania’s favorite groundhog, is the latest animal to embrace text messaging.

The program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office, has announced that Punxsutawney Phil will text his Groundhog Day forecast on February 2 to advise citizens on whether to expect another six weeks of winter or not.
“Punxsutawney Phil will make history this year by text-messaging his faithful followers - a feat that was inconceivable on the first Groundhog Day celebration more than 120 years ago,” said Mickey Rowley, deputy secretary for tourism at the Department of Community and Economic Development.
