Chexting: Lipstick on the Cell Phone

Just ask Tiger Woods and Jesse James.  ”Chexting” can get you into big trouble.

Woods and James have seen their lives turned upside down by arranging liaisons by text message.

It is instant gratification in that a text message can be sent from anywhere and at anytime.  Late night booty calls have turned into late night chexting messages.  The problem is that chexting leaves an evidence trail that a phone call does not.

Is it cheating?  You bet it is say most psychologists.  If you can’t tell your partner about it, then it’s cheating even if it doesn’t ultimately end in a sexual relationship.

“It’s giving them a rush-it’s exciting,” said clinical psychologist and sex therapist Stella Resnick.  ”The fact that they are not telling anybody else and sneaking around on their partner adds to the excitement.”

Another reason for chexting is that married people feel under the control of another person and that its exciting to rebel against that.  ”If you’re married, going against your spouse is asserting your independence. That feels sexy.”

But, don’t be fooled.  If you’ve chexted, you may soon be exted by your partner.
